My name is Dorothy Wood and I am an artist in textiles – working in fabrics and threads in the way a traditional artist uses paint and canvas.

Many of my designs are based on my observations of nature. I paint many of the fabrics and threads I use myself to ensure I get the exact colours I want. This gives me greater flexibility and makes my work very personal to me.

I incorporate both hand and free machine embroidery techniques: using traditional embroidery techniques in experimental ways and the free machine embroidery allows the sewing machine to be used in a totally unstructured way giving more freedom for creativity.

I accept commissions, teach workshops and give talks and demonstrations. I am based in Grantham, Lincolnshire. For more information please contact me .
